Health enhancing initiatives are being initiated during the summer season in educational establishments situated in Komi's capital city.

City schoolchildren headed to the local summer work association in Syktyvkar.

In the bustling city of Syktyvkar, the summer's first health campaign has begun. In line with the instructions set forth by the acting head of the republic, Rostislav Golstein, the head of the MO GO "Syktyvkar" administration, Vladimir Goladin, and his deputy for education, Olga Brighida, embarked on a city tour to learn about the leisure activities and work practices of schoolchildren.

The day began at the Girls' Gymnasium, where students work hard alongside play, as they plant flowers and polish windows. "Both a children's rest detachment and a summer labor detachment are running at the gymnasium, with a total of 45 students participating. The labor detachment spends two hours each day working on school grounds. In addition, they partake in a rich cultural program that includes museum visits, excursions, and theater plays," explained the school's director, Oksana Zhivannovich.

The topic of teenage labor is under particular scrutiny. For adolescents aged 14 and above, 19 labor and rest camps and 53 labor units are available at schools, capable of employing 2285 students.

A whopping 650 students from labor and rest camps are set to join the "Mayor's Detachments," such as "Eco Patrol," "Labor Descent," "Young Traffic Inspectors," and "First Movers." These teenagers will work for two hours daily, dedicating their efforts to beautifying city recreation areas, school and kindergarten grounds, participating in social initiatives, and nature conservation projects. The duration of the labor and rest camp shifts is a brisk 10 days, with the added perk of receiving their first official wages for free.

Olga Brighida shared, "Every year, we make every effort to allocate funds for schoolchildren's leisure and employment from the local budget and increase the funds set aside for summer jobs. This year, we doubled the amount from last year, amounting to 14.5 million rubles."

While money is certainly a plus, the teenagers themselves have observed that it's not the primary reason they join labor camps. Instead, it's the camaraderie and the opportunity to spend time with friends that draws them in. Pondering how to use their earnings, some plan on buying their moms a special treat, others will save up, while a few harbor aspirations of upgrading their smartphones.

The next stop was School No. 7. There, weekly sports events took place as part of the "Preventive Deployment" project, in collaboration with the local "First Movement" branch, the municipal coordinator of the "Childhood Navigators" project, and specialists from the Youth Center.

"Our school hosts a children's health camp this session, with approximately 60 students participating. We strive to make each day memorable for them. Today, we organized a station game, and daily, the campers visit museums, theaters, exhibitions, and other cultural events. They are provided with hot meals twice a day. Our labor detachments will start on June 16," said School No. 7 Director Yevgeny Noskov.

Naturally, labor detachments are also in operation at Gymnazia No. 1, the Baby Home, and other educational institutions. The emphasis lies on engaging students in beautifying the city and learning valuable life skills.

While the summer health campaign in Syktyvkar is noteworthy, it's important to recognize that these endeavors are not uncommon. Health campaigns, targeted at teenagers, are widely employed to promote a healthy lifestyle, educate young people about various health issues, and prevent diseases. Workshops, physical activity programs, health fairs, and social media campaigns are just a few examples of typical campaign activities. They serve to empower adolescents, foster behavioral changes, and bolster community engagement. In Syktyvkar, these principles have come to life, changing the city for the better, one teenager at a time.

  1. In light of the ongoing summer health campaign in Syktyvkar, discussions about youth participation in activities beyond just a healthy lifestyle are gaining traction. With 650 students from labor and rest camps joining the "Mayor's Detachments," it's not just about promoting a healthy lifestyle, but also introducing elements of education-and-self-development and lifestyle through these programs.
  2. As part of the schools' efforts to provide a holistic educational experience, weekly sports events, museum visits, and theater plays are organized, offering students exposure to diverse areas of news and lifestyle. Moreover, the labor detachments, aimed at beautifying the city, also facilitate learning essential life skills, thus incorporating education-and-self-development into these initiatives.
