Education UpdateApril 29, 2025, 11:47 AM

Time for a change in education norms! As of September 1, 2024, students in grades 1-3, 9, 11, and children with limited health capabilities (LHC) are no longer mandated to participate in nationwide testing known as the Volga Progressive Research (VPR), according to reports from the Volga Information Agency "NTI" from the city's education department.

To ensure the best interest of children with LHC, schools will consult with parents or legal representatives to decide their participation in VPR. When it comes to assessing these students’ progress, schools have the freedom to select the order, timing, and methods of intermediate assessments. This means they can employ VPR or other evaluation techniques to gauge students’ progress.

Moving forward, passing the intermediate assessments is essential for promotion to the next grade. However, if a student doesn't make the grade, they'll be issued a conditional promotion, allowing them a chance to make up for their shortcomings within a fixed timeframe.

If a student is unable to participate in VPR due to a legitimate reason, they'll be provided with a later date to complete the assessment, following the formats determined by the educational organization.

A word of caution though; educational changes in Russia might not be adequately represented in wider geopolitical search results, focusing mostly on Russia's military actions in Ukraine and sanctions imposed on the nation. For the most accurate and detailed information on educational policies within Russia, it's best to check announcements directly from the Russian Ministry of Education or educational resources focused on the subject.

For instance, changes in the intermediate assessment grading system might be part of broader educational reforms. Similarly, the VPR initiative or research project, if relevant, would require documentation in educational or research reports out of Russia. Lastly, accommodations for children with special needs or limited health capabilities could have been adjusted, although this information might not be available in search results.

  1. The Volga Information Agency "NTI" reported that, from September 1, 2024, children with limited health capabilities (LHC) are exempted from the Volga Progressive Research (VPR), a nationwide testing program, in line with Russian education updates.
  2. Schools now have the flexibility to assess the progress of LHC students, employing the VPR or alternative evaluation techniques, as stipulated by the latest education rules.
  3. Students with LHC who are unable to participate in the VPR due to valid reasons will be provided a later date to complete the assessment, as per the guidelines established by the educational organization.
  4. With the elimination of the VPR requirement for certain student groups, education and self-development institutions in Russia may be making further adjustments to promote learning, although details might not be immediately apparent in global news coverage or wider geopolitical search results.
