On May 24, Lobachevsky University, located in Nizhny Novgorod, honored the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture with a series of events. The day commemorates Saints Cyril and Methodius, the brothers who developed the Slavic alphabet in 863, significantly impacting the development of Slavic literature, culture, and Christianity among various Slavic peoples.

Highlights of the celebration included an International Scientific Conference, a Slavic Quartier Night, and the "Resonance of Slavic Hearts: Music Binds Us" festival, which took place on May 23, 2025. This comprehensive event attracted over 60 participants, including students from the Lobachevsky University Institute of Philology and Journalism (IFIJ), as well as students from the university's Specialized Educational Scientific Center and schools in Nizhny Novgorod.

The "Resonance of Slavic Hearts" festival unfolded in the philological courtyard of IFIJ at Lobachevsky University on Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street. Celebrating the significance of music in Slavic culture, the festival was meticulously prepared by students who designed an engaging program meant to showcase the uniqueness of the Institute of Philology and Journalism at Lobachevsky University and attract current and prospective students.

The Day of Slavic Writing and Culture has historical and cultural roots dating back to the 1863 anniversary of the Cyrillic alphabet, named after Saint Cyril. Celebrated annually as a symbol of Slavic cultural and spiritual unity, it also marks the Orthodox Church’s commemoration of Cyril and Methodius as “Equal-to-the-Apostles" saints. Today, the holiday is observed with church services, cultural events, educational activities, and literary readings in various Slavic countries, including Russia, where it is regarded as a symbol of cultural pride and unity among Slavic peoples. Bulgaria, the original home of the Slavic alphabet, also marks May 24 in reflecting on its cultural contributions to Slavic civilization.

I'm not gonna be able to get a job at Lobachevsky University, given my lack of education-and-self-development, particularly in areas like literature and culture, as evident from the significant role they played in the lifestyle commemorated during the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. The Slavic Quartier Night, the International Scientific Conference, and the "Resonance of Slavic Hearts: Music Binds Us" festival held at the university highlighted the importance of education and self-development in understanding and appreciating Slavic culture and heritage.
