Business Networking Chances at the Women Entrepreneurs Convention
The College of the Holy Cross was abuzz with excitement on November 4, 2023, as the 18th annual Women in Business Conference took centre stage. The event, designed to connect established and aspiring women in business, was a resounding success, attracting a diverse array of panelists and attendees.
The day began with an opening speech from Marybeth Kearns-Barrett '84, Director of the Chaplain's Office, setting the tone for an insightful and inspiring day. Christine Anderson '99, Global Head of Corporate Affairs and Senior Managing Director at Blackstone, was also present, sharing her wealth of experience in the business world.
The conference covered a broad spectrum of topics, from market volatility to valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Attendees also learned about marketing with a liberal arts degree, communications within the financial services industry, accounting, owning your career trajectory, aligning values to the workplace, staying current with technology, and more.
The event was embraced by the Holy Cross community, with many of the accepted students expressing their enthusiasm. Lauren Backstrom '27, one of the attendees, found the day to be both encouraging and reassuring, as she witnessed successful Holy Cross alumni sharing their experiences.
Colette Potter '26, another student, appreciated the presence of many young alumni. She found their insights into career beginnings and leadership positions particularly helpful. Potter also noted the unique opportunity the conference provided to create female-to-female connections in the business world.
Meanwhile, on the athletic front, the Holy Cross women's soccer team continued its impressive run, leading the Patriot League. Ava Graham, a first-year forward, scored her second goal of the season, while Riley Grable, a junior forward, assisted in a recent game.
English remains one of the most popular majors at Holy Cross, and the November 29th event featured senior English majors presenting their thesis projects. Sophia Mariani '26 was one of the students who showcased her work.
The Accepted Students Day, held earlier in the year, accurately reflected campus life at the College of the Holy Cross. The day offered a glimpse into the vibrant community that Holy Cross fosters, a community that supports, inspires, and empowers its students to succeed in all aspects of life.
