Bucharest's Cambridge School Takes the Lead in British and Global Accreditation Certifications
The Cambridge School of Bucharest (CSB) has made history as the first school in Romania to pass an inspection under the newly revised British Schools Overseas (BSO) framework. This achievement comes as a testament to the school's commitment to providing a world-class education that equips students not just for exams, but for life.
At CSB, pupils are not only academically rigorous but also demonstrate a strong sense of social responsibility and empathy. Volunteering and community service are integrated into the curriculum, ensuring that students gain a robust understanding of economic concepts while contributing to the betterment of their community.
Alexandra Dache, IB Coordinator, explains that the International Baccalaureate (IB) equips students with essential skills such as critical reading, public speaking, fieldwork, and collaboration. These skills are fostered at CSB, aligning with the school's already embedded values of global-mindedness, student-led learning, and interdisciplinary thinking.
The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is at the heart of CSB's educational philosophy. During verification, the IB awarded CSB seven commendations, well above expectations. The IB report praised CSB's collaborative planning, internal assessment systems, and integration of core components such as Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay.
Matthew Wemyss, Assistant School Director - Secondary, stated that the recent inspection was a "360-degree review" of school life, going into remarkable depth across every area. Inspectors affirmed CSB's strengths across both academic provision and student wellbeing.
The new BSO framework aligns British Schools Overseas more closely with the expectations of the UK's independent-school sector. The framework focuses on whether schools meet five clearly defined standards, covering quality of education, pupil wellbeing, school leadership, students' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, and child protection and safeguarding. CSB excelled in all these areas, demonstrating a wide understanding of and commitment to the IB programme.
CSB's leadership in IB practice was shared publicly at the IB World Schools Romania Engagement Conference in February 2024. Through interdisciplinary learning, global citizenship, and academic depth, CSB provides a forward-thinking environment where students are prepared not just for university but also for life in a rapidly evolving world.
Safeguarding remains a top priority at CSB. Pupils behave well in lessons and around the school, and are respectful to their peers and others. This emphasis on personal development, alongside the school's academic excellence, makes CSB a standout choice for parents seeking a well-rounded education for their children.
The Cambridge School of Bucharest was officially authorized as an IB World School in April 2024. With its dual accreditation under both the British and IB systems, CSB reflects a deep-rooted philosophy of progress, rigour, and innovation.
