Bremen regains educational momentum as per INSM Education Report 2024
In a comprehensive study conducted by the Institute of the German Economy (IW) on behalf of the Initiative New Social Market Economy (INSM), the performance of German federal states was evaluated across several key areas, including reducing educational poverty, securing skilled workers, and promoting growth.
The findings reveal a competitive landscape, with Saxony and Bavaria leading the way on average across 13 action fields. Hamburg, Thuringia, Baden-Württemberg, and the Saarland followed closely behind.
Hamburg, known for its internationalization, took a leading role in the action field of integration. Baden-Württemberg, a frontrunner in digitalization and time efficiency, and the Saarland, which excels in expenditure prioritization, also showed strong performances.
Brandenburg took the top spot in the action field of integration, while Berlin made a significant leap forward in the ranking, moving from 15th to 12th place compared to the previous year.
The study, which includes 98 indicators assigned to 13 educational policy action fields, measures both aspects of educational justice and impulses of the education system to strengthen the qualification base of the economy.
Since 2013, the Saarland and Hamburg have shown the most improvement, while Berlin has made the biggest leap forward in the ranking. Saxony achieved top spots in the action fields of funding infrastructure, school quality, educational poverty, and research orientation. Bavaria took the top position in vocational training.
Even the last place in the overall ranking, Bremen, achieved the first place in the action field of university/MINT. However, challenges in the action fields of integration, school quality, and educational poverty have significantly increased nationwide.
