Brandenburg's 'Let's Play Climate Adaptation' Project Concludes, Influencing City Planning
The 'Let's play Climate Adaptation' model project in Brandenburg an der Havel has concluded after nearly two years. Funded by the state initiative 'My City of the Future', the project saw around 30 guests attend its closing dialogue event on September 29, 2025.
The project, centered around the digital participation game 'CityGameSpace', allowed citizens to virtually redesign the southern Bauhofstraße and incorporate climate-adapted elements. The game was available online from May to July 2025 and recorded 1,292 starts in eleven weeks, with participants spending an average of 32 minutes per round. Notably, workshops with around 100 students from various schools, including the Theodor-Heuss-Schule, supplemented the online participation.
The evaluation revealed that diverse designs led to better resistance against heat and heavy rain in simulations. Mayor Michael Müller praised the project for its successful digital participation and the valuable inputs provided by the citizens. The project has offered valuable experiences for the city in digital participation and will influence the preliminary planning of the Bauhofstraße.
