Another theater in Omsk declares "renaming"
New Moniker for Studio Theatre by L. Ermolaevoiy Announced
The City of Omsk's Drama Theatre, previously known as the City Drama Studio Theatre L. Ermolaevoiy, has unveiled a fresh identity.
On April 2, 2025, the official announcement was made, revealing the theater's new title: The Budgetary Cultural Institution of the City of Omsk, City Drama Theatre named after L. I. Ermolaevoiy, or BUK g. Omska GDTim. L. I. Ermolaevoiy in everyday use.
"From now on, we will proudly present ourselves as such: The Budgetary Cultural Institution of the City of Omsk, City Drama Theatre named after L. I. Ermolaevoiy, or BUK g. Omska GDTim. L. I. Ermolaevoiy, - as stated in the official publication.
Plans for replacing the signage, reflecting the new title, with one showcasing L. Ermolaevoiy's contributions to the theatre's history, called Melpomene, have also been announced. The new signage is expected to appear before the start of the 35th season.
The cultural institution's history dates back to 1966 when L. Ermolaeva founded the Theatre of Poetry. The status of a theatre studio was granted in 1989, and the move to the current building on Chemist Street took place in 1997. L. Ermolaeva passed away in 2013.
In case you've forgotten, Omsk residents were given the chance to choose from five alternatives for the new name of the Drama Lyceum Theatre in January 2025.
