Annual Investment of Over RM10 Million by OCBC Malaysia Towards Workforce Preparation for the AI Age
OCBC Invests in AI Education for Malaysian Workforce
In a bid to foster a more collaborative and dynamic work environment, OCBC has unveiled a refurbished collaboration center at Menara OCBC. This move is part of the bank's commitment to prepare its 5,000-strong workforce for an AI-driven future.
The bank is investing over RM10 million annually towards this initiative. The funds will be used to link employees with experts and career coaches through various programs. Nearly 3,890 employees have already participated in these programs, with close to 12,500 course completions recorded to date.
The bank's MOBI AI Career Growth Companion is a key tool in this endeavour. This platform allows staff to explore skills and chart career paths across the US bank Group.
The Human Resources Minister, Steven Sim Chee Keong, has emphasized the importance of Malaysia embracing AI while putting clear frameworks in place to address ethical and legal considerations.
OCBC's investment aims to equip its employees with the skills needed to navigate challenges and seize opportunities presented by rapid global changes.
Looking ahead, OCBC Malaysia plans to introduce more growth and skills coaching programs for its employees.
In a significant development, starting next year, OCBC Malaysia will support students pursuing scholarships in AI-related fields. The scholarships will specifically target Malaysian undergraduate students enrolled in AI, data science, machine learning, or related technology programs.
Two OCBC scholarships will be dedicated to students pursuing AI-related disciplines to support the nation's development of local talent in artificial intelligence.
The Grow Your Way with MOBI initiative, which has been held in Singapore, Greater China, and Indonesia, forms a key part of this strategy. OCBC Malaysia offers close to 480 AI programs, ranging from foundational AI concepts to advanced topics like Generative AI and Agentic AI.
