Accountancy Questions for CBSE Class 12 Half Yearly Exam 2025 in a Case-Study Format

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that the upcoming Class 12 Accountancy Mid Term Examination in 2025 will feature case-based questions. This move is designed to test a student's comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios.

The CBSE has not disclosed the author of the case-based questions for this exam. The syllabus for the academic year 2025-26 can be downloaded from the given link.

One of the case studies in this year's exam is Nidiya Limited, a company that issued shares to vendors, Ms. VPS Enterprises, for assets acquired. Nidiya Limited has issued a total of 2,99,800 equity shares. The shares issued to Ms. VPS Enterprises would be classified as "Issue for consideration other than cash."

In another case study, Sterlingenterprises, a partnership business with Ryan, Williams, Sania, and the new partner, Ejaz, as partners, faced a capital expansion issue. Sania could not bring in the necessary capital, so Ejaz was admitted. The profit-sharing ratio of the partners has been revised to 5:5:4:4.

Ejaz brought in Rs.30,00,000 as premium for goodwill, and the correct journal entry for this is Premium for Goodwill A/c Dr. 30,00,000 To Sania's Capital A/c 30,00,000. The value of the goodwill of the firm is Rs.1,35,00,000.

In Case Study 4, a not-for-profit organization prepares both the Income and Expenditure account and the Receipt and Payment account. In Case Study 2, the primary source of income for the Star cricket academy is subscription.

The balance sheet of Sterlingenterprises reflects an amount of security premium of ₹400 and a share forfeiture of ₹600. The amount of subscription in advance on 31st March 2021 is ₹50,000. However, there are arrears of subscription amounting to ₹3,20,000 on the same date.

In Case Study 3, the amount of Rs.50,00,000 received from Mr Manohar towards building and mess should be transferred to the "Building Fund." The amount of Rs. 35,00,000 spent on construction of building should be reflected on the asset side of the balance sheet and as a deduction from the Building fund and addition to the capital fund.

These case studies provide a practical perspective to the theoretical concepts learned by students, making the exam more engaging and challenging. Students are advised to revise their accounting principles thoroughly and practice solving real-world problems to excel in the upcoming exam.
